Kale Berry Power Smoothie

This power smoothie is packed with nutrients! Kale is high in vitamins A, C, and K as well as manganese, the berries are a wonderful source of antioxidants, and the banana is a good source of fiber, vitamins B6 and C, and manganese. Aloe juice provides anti-inflammatory properties along with the flax oil’s essential fatty acids. I like the Raw Fiber brand because it includes a good dose of good bacteria so it does double duty for digestive health!

Handful of baby kale or Lacinato kale
5 oz frozen mixed berries
1 banana
4 oz aloe juice
4 oz water
2 tbsp flax oil
1 scoop Raw Fiber (or your favorite brand of fiber powder)

Blend until smooth and enjoy!!

  1. Looks yummy! What’s the calorie count on a smoothie like that? And do you know the ratio of carbs to protein? Or the % of Carbs, Protein and Sugar?

    • Hi Peg! I hadn’t done the analysis since I am less concerned with calories and more concerned with getting quality produce and nutrients into my diet. 🙂 I threw the numbers together quickly to get an idea – the calories are around 500, but about 200 of this is from the flax oil which I use as my EFA supplement. Flax oil is packed with Omega 3s and fights inflammation. There are about 60 grams of carbs, which some may consider high, but over 20 grams are fiber which offsets that a good bit. There are 25 grams of sugar which are mainly from the fruit – no added sweeteners. And there are about 11 grams of protein with half coming from the kale and fruit and half from the fiber powder. If you are concerned about the sugar content you can try it with half of a banana which will lower the sugar by about 6 grams. I love this smoothie as a filling breakfast that gives me lots of nutrients and energy to start my day! 🙂 I hope this gives you the info you need!
